Janne Malmros was born in Denmark and has a masters degree from the Slade School of Fine Art in London. She knows, as the curator Simon Gould puts it, “where to stand to get the best view. Whether working with the magnitude of an entire archive of prints and drawings, a floral dress or even a simple shape, Janne manages to find ways in to pique curiosity and allow her audience both aesthetic and intellectual satisfaction.”

Malmros’ work is infused by strong interests in botany, entomology, geometry and pattern. Her work is non-prescriptive and driven by research and process. Malmros uses assemblage, adaptation and repetition in a range of media including drawing, screen printing, animation, collage and elements of photographic and sculptural processes. Investigations, experimentation and installation play an important part in her work; she sometimes works with art collections or archives, drawing out possible meanings within them. Most recently she has worked with the MAS Museum in Antwerp followed by a residency at the Frans Masereel Centrum in Belgium.

Recent solo shows include In Circles, The Hirschsprung Collection, Copenhagen, DK, 2011, Black-veined White – Acme Project Space, London, UK, 2010, Four Suits Four Seasons – The Royal Danish Embassy, London, UK, 2009. Recent group exhibitions include The Grammar of Ornament, Hoxton Art Gallery, London, 2011, Surface Noise – Jerwood Space, London, UK, 2011 Utopia Project – Contemporary Greek Art Institute, Athens, Greece, 2010-11, Ink – UCL, London, UK, 2010, The Art of Function – Oriel Sycharth Gallery, Wales, UK, 2010, Double Interview – HUE Art Space, Seoul, South Korea, 2010 and Loops, – The Chelsea Art Space, London, UK, 2010.
